Cruise.co.uk go the extra mile for Christmas party...7 to be exact!

The weekend of the 19th December was our Cruise.co.uk Christmas cruise and it was certainly full of unexpected twists and one we will never forget!! Here is our story of traffic jams, snow, team effort and a 7 mile motorway hike to get onboard the ship....

After boarding the coach in Redditch at 8.30am we were all set and ready to go down to Dover to board the Fred Olsen cruise ship; Balmoral for the 2 night sailing to Amsterdam. All was well and spirits were running high with excitement. For the previous few days the South of the Country had been hit by heavy snowfall and little did we know what we had in store...

After arriving on the A2 we hit serious traffic jams due to the closure of the Channel Tunnel, Lorries were being stacked up on the M20 and there were reports of a 5 hour queue to get into Dover.

After waiting a few hours we decided that there was nothing left to do if we wanted to board the ship than to walk the 7 odd miles into Dover.... With our coats zipped, gloves on, hats on, suitcases in tow we set of in true style in a Cruise.co.uk convoy up the motorway.

Braving all the elements we battled snowy icy roads, heavy bags, trundling arctic Lorries and very busy roundabouts. It was quite an experience let me tell you and certainly not one I had thought I would be doing. Believe me i have never wished i had packed a pair of willies with my frocks more than I did that day!
We finally arrived into Dover Port with less than an hour to spare, soaking wet feet that were ready to give up; we were certainly ready for a very stiff drink!

It was a true team effort from us all, helping each other along the way and spurring each other on, we had laughs along the way and i have to say it was worth every mile as we had an absolutely fantastic time onboard the ship. Definitely not your usual Team Building exercise but one that certainly worked!

I would highly recommend the Balmoral she was a lovely little ship and the staff made our Christmas party experience unforgettable!

I’m looking forward to finding out what next years will bring; now I know anything is possible! :-)
